Sent Emails
I sent emails to the remaining people that were on the google doc list for people who will be awarded. I even included all three professors to come. So Catherine when you make the awards, add all three professors awards as well. The names are on the syllabus.
Christine, I sent the emails to the nominees and the organizations as well.
And I think that's about it for tonight. :)
Catering
So the catering part of our event is good to go.
Carrie who is going to help us with funding has approved our total amount and she will talk to Rose and it will be signed.
Also, I already put the order in and that is about it.

Should We??
Hey group,
I was just wondering....Are we suppose to add the professors on our blog and fb page?
If so let's ask for their accounts so that we can search.
I believe they mentioned something like that so they could observe the process of what we are doing.
Website and FB event link
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=176602832392074 This is the fb event page. Im going to purchase a domain for our website which is currently http://gmcguin.tripod.com/ . The problem is projectsmile.com or .org isn't available. It would have to be projectsmilecommitment.com or something else? Any ideas i can look into to see if their available? our own domain name would just make it so much easier for organizaitions or people that want to attend to find us on the internet.

What's the link for the group and the event?
Catering
Okay!
So I'm sorry I wasn't present in class. It was crazy...but anyways!
I looked up on Jason's Deli and if it is okay I'm going to order:
Croissant Party Sandwich Tray (Medium,20 croissants): $60
Party Pinwheel Tray(27 pinwheels): $40
Fresh Fruit & Cheese Tray(medium, serves 16-21 people): $65
Drinks(canned soda, 25 people): $32.25
I have tried these three platters and I think it would be perfect.
The total would be $197.25. Is this too much?
We can take out one of the platters between the croissant&pinwheel. Let me know.
If there are any other opinions, let me know.
In case you guys didn't notice
There is a loud religious preacher guy outside the JC right now (2 PM). I don't know if it's Brother Micah/Mike or not, but there is a crowd gathered around him.

Award Certificate!
Herro Everyone!
I hope everyone enjoyed and took advantage of the awesome weather we had today! =]
So I was on www.certificatestreet.com and I found some to share with everybody.

What I looked for in searching the templates was bright colors, and just a happy, positive feeling!
The first one I thought was good because it has various colors, very diverse.
The second caught my attention because it's a globe, also very diverse, but it tells us we're all one.
The third is a bright yellow color with a big sunny smiley face.
Tell me your opinions. Which ones you like, or if I should search for more. I mean I will be searching for more, but everyone's opinions on what the certificate should look like. What kind of visual picture we would like to present on the award.
Thanks!

Catering
So I was checking out Jason Deli's event planning/catering section, and we actually have to give details and then they would call us back and discuss about the menu.
Therefore, we're gonna have to figure out how many people would come to the event so that I could figure out an estimate. I'm sure they do need some time ahead but not too much.
If we can figure out the number of people by the 16th, it will be cool.
My portion-- idk if this is okay..
The Social Change Model is a key concept in leadership to try to foster a positive social change. The three components work in tandem with one another: the individual, the group, and the community. Our project’s framework was inspired from six individual’s ideas against bigotry and hate groups especially at George Mason University. We created a group to take a more proactive approach and find a common goal to share with the community. The George Mason University Community is beginning to take a notice of what we are doing and creating solidarity within our efforts to celebrate diversity (1). According to the Social Change Model initially researched at the University of California Los Angeles in 1994, leaders can contribute in any aspect of the process of change. The “Seven ‘C’s’” as they are called, seen within the three aspects of social change (individual, group, and community/society) are all effective measurements of successful social movements(2):
The Individual: It begins with a person’s idea being brought to light for others to catch onto and join in, to which other people follow and thus create a movement.
- Consciousness of self: This relates to us having our idea of anti-bigotry and anti-hate and realizing we want to take a more proactive approach to find solidarity.
- Congruence: The freedoms we have in the USA are powerful and can be used in countless ways. We want to allow those who feel oppressed to realize their value and the differences in thoughts are worth evaluating.
- Commitment: The feeling of pride and integrity with supporting your decision to go ahead and attempt something that has never really been done before.
The Group: Although the catalyst was our class project, we decided to take on the challenge of opening it up to the entire Mason community.
- Collaboration: Alerting over three hundred student organizations of this cause and honoring the students who were already doing things to rectify discriminatory acts, while alerting other students that there is a group of us working to make things better for everyone.
- Common Purpose: We have a common purpose at the university level to do well, excel and attain a degree. Some students are also trying to enjoy college and the “college experience” without mindless bigots creating barriers. Overall we all want an environment to focus on our studies.
- Controversy with civility: The existence of hate groups, extremists and radical groups is inevitable and to an extent perfectly constitutional for them to express their opinions. It is until they cross the line of being offensive and demeaning toward someone else, the slander that occurs on our campus should not affect the daily lives of our students.
The Community:
- Citizenship: When there is war, famine, or other societal issues we need to be more supportive of one another, because in any other situation it could be you. That idea of unity is something that should bond us all. Taking a stand to speak for those who have lost their voice.

Meeting
Hey group, Sorry I was not able to make the meeting tonite, I had to work in Maryland with my family. I emailed Dan Walsch tonight asking him if he could be a guest speaker at the event. Lets keep our fingers crossed!! As for funding, I believe 15 dollars will suffice for the poster board and the poster board materials. -Arlene
GOINGS ONS
Whats up dudes and dudettes? Here's what garrett, josh, gloria, and catherine were thinking after tonights meeting. Our date for our event is Friday April 29th at 7 pm pending confirmation from Mason Hall. Here's what we want to get done this week. -Kiosk advertising our event. We want to have a nice poster and some flyers and/or brochures to show to students and hand out. Since our event will most likely be on april 29th we could set up a kiosk for one day the week of the 18th and again on the week of the 25th. (All of us in shifts) -We also want to distribute flyers and hang up brochures/flyers around campus advertising the event. Which means we need a logo and a kick ass design. We will post those each Monday so they will be there all week. (Arlene and Josh) -Contact Jelly belly to see if they will send us free jelly bean packs for the event. (Garrett) -Catering for the event. (Gloria) -NCC funding? We were thinking we want to have everything else done on this list first before we ask for funding so we seem really well established and can seem more deserving of more dinero. That's why we should get this stuff done this week. NCC will probably want to have an idea of how big the event will be and how much money we may need to pull it off. Soooooo, lets come up with some estimates soon based on our roles in the group. -FB event page. (Garrett) -Awards certificates (Catherine) -Contacting guest speakers for the event. Arlene had somebody in mind and we could also contact the NCC diversity team to see if they would want anybody to speak. (Arlene and Garrett) -Sign in sheet for the organizations and people. We also are gonna want to thank these organizations after the event so it's important to know who is there. (Gloria) Other things to consider: Microphones and speaker system? Projector? Chairs? Tables? Podium? Video camera?
